Tips & Techniques with Caran d'Ache Colored Pencils

Libby Kyer

Libby works in colored pencil, graphite, carbon, water media, ink, and computer with carefully observed realism, satisfying her love of science and detail. Her favorite medium is colored pencil, which is portable, used on many grounds, and creates rich pigments. Being a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and editor of the ASBA Journal The Botanical Artist, Libby has been an instructor for 11 years at the Denver Botanic Gardens' Certificate Program in Botanical Art and Illustration and presents workshops in the US and internationally.

Also a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens Florilegium Society, and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, Libby's award winning works have been included in national and international juried exhibits; in public, corporate, and private collections; in magazines, catalogs, and comissioned numerous scientists and authors. She co-authored Today's Botanical Artists, a compendium of the works of 65 contemporary North American botanical artists. A second volume of international artists is in the works. For more of Libby's work and book information, click on her name above, and the link will take you to her website.

About Mountainside Art Guild

Mountainside Art Guild is dedicated to the pursuit and promotion of artistic endeavors in visual fine arts including original painting, drawing, photography, collage, silk-screen, etching, sculpture, digital, etc.

Mountainside Art Guild is a Lakewood, Colorado-based group made up of artists ranging from the amateur to the professional.  It was first organized in 1970 by a handful of dedicated artists and has since grown to become one of the most active art groups in the Denver metropolitan area.

Meetings are the first Wednesday of the month.  Meetings consist of a short business meeting, a drawing for the "Lucky Artist," and a program (demonstration, critique, or presentation).

Officers are elected at the annual meeting each November and include the President, Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and all special Chairmen.
